Utility Allowance – Utility Allowance Form
HASLC utility allowances depend on the unit type, how many bedrooms, the utilities you pay, and if they are serviced by electric or gas. The rates took effect July 1, 2014 and remain in place today. Current utility allowances can be found here.
If a tenant chooses a unit that rents at or below the payment standard qualified for, they pay 30% of their monthly income toward rent and utilities. If a tenant chooses a unit that rents above their approved payment standard, they will pay the full amount for rent that exceeds their approved payment standard. Tenants may not move into a unit where rent and utilities cost more than 40% of their monthly income.
If a tenant pays for utilities, HASLC will provide a monthly utility allowance. The amount is based on an average utility rate for the Salt Lake County area. Tenants receive it as a credit to their total monthly payment.
HASLC does business in accordance with the Federal Fair Housing Law.
